Ratings for the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Systems Strengthening and Nutrition Improvement Project (ISSNIP) for India were as follows: outcome and Bank performance was satisfactory, and monitoring and evaluation (M and E) quality was substantial. Some lessons learned included: using performance, results, and incentives as motivation instead of input-based financing paid off. Effective and sustainable capacity building of program functionaries and frontliners. The ICDS -common application software (CAS) mobile technology for nutrition service was among the first such systems to be developed for a nutrition program. Community-based events (CBEs), prioritized home visits, innovations, mass, and mid-media campaigns all contributed to improved knowledge and behavior among beneficiaries. The project innovations were mainstreamed into Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme of Holistic Nourishment (POSHAN) 2.0; hence those innovations were sustained beyond the end of the project. Finally, improving nutrition requires long term sustained intensive, harmonized engagement, and additional in-depth analysis on complementary feeding indicators lagging in certain states.
