The unresolved India-Pakistan conflict remains one of the major challenges in contemporary international relations. This book analyses the conflict between India and Pakistan. It examines the India–Pakistan complexity by focusing on the problems of human rights violations perpetrated by state and non-state actors in Indian and Pakistani administered Kashmir. The two South Asian states use, either explicitly or indirectly, the Kashmir issue as an important determinant of their internal and foreign policies and the Kashmir conflict is embedded in the power structures of both states. At the same time they both acknowledge the framework of international human rights regime and their duties thereby imposed, and take steps which lead to various abuses within the sphere of human rights.
